Introduction
In August 2024 Gleeson Land submitted an outline planning application to Arun District Council. The application comprises land for a community building for Cancer United along with significant areas of open space and up to 190 units on Land west of Bewley Road, Angmering.
Who we are
Gleeson Land is part of MJ Gleeson PLC which has over 100 years of experience in the development industry. Gleeson Land promotes land for development ranging from small sites, to large scale strategic sites.
Gleeson Land aims to secure permission for high quality new homes at sustainable locations to help deliver much-needed housing across England.
Updates following our Public Consultation
Prior to submission of this planning application, we sought the views of the community via a public consultation event held at Angmering Community Centre on 21st May 2024.
During our public consultation a local Angmering Based charity called Cancer United expressed interest in a new building within the Proposed Development. As a result of the need identified by Cancer United, and the lack of alternative space in Angmering or elsewhere in the district, it has been agreed that land will be gifted to Cancer United for its specific use.
An increase in open space was featured in the responses and the provision of open space has been increased to the north of the site and a NEAP included to allow a landscape led development.
While the site area has increased, the number of units has reduced from 210 to 190 dwellings. This has led to a reduction in density across the whole site.

Cancer United
What we do
Cancer United is a unique cancer support charity based in West Sussex offering help and support for all those living in Sussex whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis.
The Charity aims to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of those with cancer from diagnosis onwards, inspiring them to embrace the things they can do and to refuse to be defined by what they can’t.

Our Story
Cancer United was founded by Jan Sheward, following a life-changing diagnosis of breast cancer, when she experienced first-hand the lack of appropriate health and wellbeing support available to those going through cancer treatment.
Through the benefits the charity offer they aim to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of those with cancer from diagnosis onwards, inspiring them to embrace the things they can do and to refuse to be defined by what they can’t whilst also giving support to those close to them.
The services and benefits that Cancer United and CUFITTER® offer are inclusive to everyone and encompass all those whose lives have been affected by cancer including family friends and carers whatever religion or from whatever walk of life.
Further information on the charity can be found on their website www.cancerunited.org.uk
